Modeling is one of the most sought-after and lucrative professions today. So it can be extremely flattering when someone approaches you at the local ice cream parlour and says, "You have what it takes to be a model and we are looking for people with your ‘look’. Here's my card. Give me a call to set up an appointment." In order to find oneself in a situation like that, one has to maintain very strong self-confidence in one's poise, posture, and behavior.
It is true that some successful models have been discovered in everyday places like malls, boutiques, clubs, and airports and you might have even read about how Claudia Schiffer was discovered walking down a street. Judith Riley's Workshop focuses on developing a good posture, poise, and self confidence. Moreover, students acquire the skills of how to walk the runaway with attitude, grace, and style. The latter are the most essential elements in the modeling career.

Though we may not realize it, what we do and how we do it affect the shape, tone and feel of our bodies. We are constantly in motion, even while sitting, and posture is like a still photograph of the way we move.
Sometimes we look in the mirror and we are not happy with what we see. Maybe our shoulders round forward. Our knees point in. We do not like our walk. We cannot stand that stoop. Maybe we try to fix the problem by listening to the familiar voices in our heads — "Stand up straight!" "Tuck your pelvis!" "Pull your shoulders back!" "Hold your head up!" We try arranging body parts. We tuck our pelvis. We straighten up. It looks better, but feels like so much work. We let go, and there is the same old posture again. We realize that we are lazy or too tightly wound or out of shape. Maybe we think that our posture runs in the family. Fortunately, this is not the way! Everyone of us is capable of improving his/her posture. All we need to have is time, instructions, and hard work.
